[Answered] Users unable to log in

We just did a PHPBB import into vBulletin.

vBulletin is not properly recognizing any passwords and is forcing everyone to reset them.

    How is this fixed?

This is normal, you should use email.php ( admincp/email.php ) from the admin panel to send out a mass email to all members letting them know that:

We've recently made changes to our forum software and you are required to reset your password using this form http://www.yoursiteurl.com/login.php?do=lostpw

I am a little confused though - all its doing is telling people that they entered a wrong username or password. Shouldn't there be some sort of alternate text on the forum saying what is going on? They end up using their 5 login attempts and get all pissed off, send me nasty emails and dont understand whats going on.

I can email them but that doesn't mean they're going to check their email before trying to log in. In fact I would assume that they wont.

A much better solution needs to be provided. You can't just send them to the logon page, tell them they screwed up 5 times, punish them with a 15 minute time-out ..... etc...

          Help..

Ok then add a new notice .

            > AdminCP > Notices > Add New Notice

Set it to only show to users of the Unregistered/Not Logged in Usergroup and use this HTML code:

Attention members, due to a recent change in forum software you are required to reset your password using this page: <a href="http://www.yoursiteurl.com/login.php?do=lostpw>Lost Password Form</a>

When we did the import, my programmer imported them to a usergroup called "REGISTERED".

After he did that, we moved them to "Registered Users" for uniformity sake.

So all these users are currently in "Registered Users" usergroup.

That's fine though because we want to snag their attention before they even try to login so the new notice will hopefully alert them when they visit the site as a guest that, they should request a new password .
