    [Forum] Post Modifications

    I notice that on this forum, there seems to be additional empty space below the last line of text on posts.
    I have the default style installed and I have less space. So the posts seem more squished together vertically.

    Additionally my style seems to have the thread title at the top of every reply "Re: Thread Title".
    This forum style here does not.

    Lastly, the thread title seems to appear only at the top of the first post. And the font is black.
    Mine is a light shade of blue.

    How do I change these three things on my style?

    1 - I have no idea what space you are talking about. Can you provide a link for us to see a thread on your site and describe exactly where the problem is

    2 - AdminCP > Settings > Options > message posting & editing options > Automatically Quote Post / Thread Title

    3 - First you said "my style seems to have the thread title at the top of every reply" and now you say "the thread title seems to appear only at the top of the first post", so I am confused about what you are talking about here.

    Please don't PM or VM me for support - I only help out in the threads.

    If I post CSS and you don't know where it goes, throw it into the additional.css template.

      This is not in the style, but in the forum options: cp admin > settings > options > message posting and editing options > automatically quote post/thread title : No.

        Im not sure what is confusing. I stated that there is a large amount of empty space below the last line of text in some posts. Not sure how else to write that for you.
        However further research reveals that this seems to change, based on whether a person has an avatar or not. If they do, and only write one line of text, there is a lot of empty space below that text. If they don't, there isn't much at all. Without avatars, posts look very cramped. Maybe ill just encourage people to get avatars instead.

        No. I didn't contradict myself. You didnt read what I wrote.

          The problem is that it's a lot easier to see what is going on when you can actually see what is going on. A screenshot or a link to a post that is having the problem would be a lot more helpful than trying to use our imagination.

          It's not that the thread title shows on every post, it just that each post can also have a title too, and as Eve_Ra said, that option makes each post title default to "Re: <Thread Title>".

            I felt that the phrase: "empty space below the last line of text in a post" was pretty simple to imagine. With more complex issues I will definitely take screen caps. The person in question also misread my second issue. So ....

            Side note:

            I have the default install of this style, yet my "quoted title" is in a blue font. Not black like shown on this forum. Did you guys modify the default style, and therefore I will need to as well?

            If so, possible to point me to exactly what line needs to be modified in what file?

              Misread or simply misunderstood? Could have been either or but no point in arguing what's what, let me explain what's going on .

              Basically yes, if the users Avatar and userinfo (join date/posts/location/OTHER added profile fields) is longer than the post then there will be whitespace (reference the red box & arrows in my screenshot)

              Click image for larger version

Name:	examplewhitespace1.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	49.7 KB
ID:	3689413

              And of course vice-verse as well meaning if the post content has more content, it will be "longer" as shown in orange.

                For change the color of your postbit title :

                Code:
                .postbit .posttitle, .postbitlegacy .title
                {
                 border-bottom: {vb:stylevar postbittitle_border};
                 padding-bottom: 5px;
                 margin-bottom: 5px;
                color: #ff0000;
                }
                Put the line color: #ff0000; there. You can modify the color which is there red.

                - - - Updated - - -

                ... Ooopsss...

                Make that in the CSS templates > postbit.css, at the bottom of the template.

                  Add this to additional.css, if you add it to postbit.css it is possible a future upgrade may overwrite it OR the templates may not merge correctly and you'll lose the customization. If you add all new css codes to additional.css they will not be overwritten in a upgrade.

                    Yes, you are right!

                    Well, put in CSS templates > additional.css

                    Code:
                    .postbit .posttitle, .postbitlegacy .title
                    {
                     color: #ff0000;
                    }

                        They aren't files, they are templates in the database like any other template. Admin CP -> Styles & Templates -> Style Manager -> « » -> CSS Templates -> additional.css

                          Alright, there was the problem. I already looked in the Styles & Templates area.

                          But that completely nondescript <<>> button is why I could not find what you were pointing me to.

                          Please consider changing that to a button with words on it. Even though I know it has a hover tag.

                          Spent 15 minutes poking around the styles section unsuccessfully because of it.

                          ---------------

                          Also - ff0000 makes it bright red. 000000 will make it black.

                          ---------------

                          Thank you!

                            You didn't try pushing it? It makes sense in context (expand, arrows pointing both ways, you can collapse groups as well by clicking on >> <<) I'm almost positive we've used that same symbol since fairly early on in vB3.

                              Actually the univeral "expand" icon on the internet is a plus sign: +

                              The universal "continue" or "proceed" sign is >>

                              << >> isnt anything I am aware of. But it may be the norm for this specific software.

                              And the problem was that its right next to a "Go" button, so confusion set in quickly ....
