  • [Forum] How do I move Tags to *above* the messages in a thread?

    I'd like to move the little section which starts with "Tags for this thread" to above the posts in a thread - as opposed to being placed at the bottom of the last post on a page. Can anyone tell me how I can do this (for all Styles)? Thanks in advance.

    You would need to edit the SHOWTHREAD template to move them.
    Vote for:

    - *Admin Settable Paid Subscription Reminder Timeframe*
    -
    *PM - Add ability to reply to originator only*
    - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s)
    - "Quick Route" Interface...

      Thanks. So I guess I have to move this stuff towards the top of the page:

      PHP Code:
      // *********************************************************************************
      // prepare tags
      $show['tag_box'] = false;

      if (
      $vbulletin->options['threadtagging'])
      {

      $tag_list fetch_tagbits($thread['taglist']);

          if (!
      $foruminfo['allowposting'])
          {

      // forum closed - tags can't be added, so only show edit if have tags

      $show['manage_tag'] = ($thread['taglist'] AND can_moderate($thread['forumid'], 'caneditthreads'));
          }
          else if (!
      $thread['open'] AND !can_moderate($thread['forumid'], 'canopenclose'))
          {

      // thread is closed and can't be opened by this person;

      $show['manage_tag'] = can_moderate($thread['forumid'], 'caneditthreads');
          }
          else
          {

      $show['manage_tag'] = (
                  ((
      $forumperms $vbulletin->bf_ugp_forumpermissions['cantagown']) AND $thread['postuserid'] == $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'])
                  OR (
      $forumperms $vbulletin->bf_ugp_forumpermissions['cantagothers'])
                  OR ((
      $forumperms $vbulletin->bf_ugp_forumpermissions['candeletetagown']) AND $thread['postuserid'] == $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'])
                  OR
      can_moderate($thread['forumid'], 'caneditthreads')
             &
      nbsp;
          }

      $show['tag_box'] = ($show['manage_tag'] OR $thread['taglist']);

      ...?

      And: This would have to be re-done for every subrelease of vB?

        Not necessarily - each upgrade will attempt to merge any template changes you have made in - if that change can't be merged then you would need to either:

        - merge any new changes to your custom template or
        - revert the template and make your changes again
        Vote for:

        - *Admin Settable Paid Subscription Reminder Timeframe*
        -
        *PM - Add ability to reply to originator only*
        - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s)
        - "Quick Route" Interface...

          I just moved the php code above to where I thought I should move it, but had to close the forum now because I get a server error message every time I try to look at a thread. Any hints re how I can get out of this situation are very welcome!

          - - - Updated - - -

          OK, so I unpacked the 4.2 files again and uploaded the original showthread.php file again, so the server error is gone.

          But any hints re. exactly how I shall edit showthread.php are extremely welcome! :-)

            Don't edit the file, edit the template...

              Thanks I tried that too, with a very weird result - as expected, as I don't know anything about php. I guess it's easy to remove the Tag-area, but I don't know where to move it to if I want to have it appear just above the first post in a thread.
