    OK - I have a temporary fix by resizing through CSS. I added this to my additional.css and the Activity Stream looks fine again:

    Code:
    .activitybit .avatar img
    {
       width:75px;
       height:auto;
    }

    Yes, your thumbnails aren't properly generated. It appears to show fine in the CMS, but that's because it is using CSS to set maximum dimensions for the image.

    Here's a thought - my host upgraded to PHP 5.4.2 recently. It broke my CKEditor but I was able to fix it. It also broke my GD that is used for Human Verification. This makes me think it may have broken the image processing that makes the avatars, even though the rebuild is reported as a success.

    I checked the images in my vbcustomavatar table and they didn't get resized. So I'm guessing there is a problem with the resizing function when running under PHP 5.4.2.

Inspecting the elements with Firebug shows that code for the ones that work in the CMS widget is identical to the code that doesn't work in the Activity Stream:

    CMS Widget code (works):
    <img src="/forum/image.php?u=1&dateline=1321325596&type=thumb" alt="userx" title="userx">

    Activity Stream code (broken):
    <img src="/forum/image.php?u=1&dateline=1321325596&type=thumb" alt="userx" title="userx">

    What could be causing this?
    Mind posting a link?

    How do I fix this? It covers the text and looks stupid

    I hope you aren't just sending money every year, your license is good for the life of vB4.

    Are all avatars having this issue, or just a few? Are custom avatars having this issue, or just user-selectable ones? Are your customavatar/thumbs and images/avatars/thumbs directories writable by PHP?
    I expect some answers, i had the same problem, so why make a new topic if there is already a topic with the same issue? Only my problem didnt solved with this trick.

    thanks to Merjawy and you i could solve the problem. So thanks for the help

    Make sure your avatars folders permissions are set correct. This includes the custom avatars and avatar tumbnails
