I don't know where that is happening. I am just looking at the Page Info > Media and it is showing as a background there. So somewhere on that page, it is being called as an image/background. If I were to guess, it would be your background-image calls in your additional.css. I believe you want to use just background, not background-image with those gradient tags.

    <div class="g-plusone" data-size="small" data-href="https://www.bugabuse.net/"></div>)
    I've removed that gplus thingy..

Also; is their any way of narrowing down where it's calling it as a background?

    Thanks

Sorry, I meant search the html of that particular page (using the browser function to view it). I tried it with the link you posted above and didn't find anything. If it's caused by a js request it could be harder to find. I'll look at it more and post if I see anything.

    I grep'd for src="" and got this:
    https://tmp.bugabuse.net/grepout.txt
    And grep'd for href="":

    Think this could be it?

    Nope, 404 redirects to https://www.bugabuse.net/404/404.html
    and 503 goes to /503/503.html
EDIT: also, I went to my 404 page, and it didn't load the homepage in my logs.. It appears to be only happening on showthread.php.
