[Forum] Questions about moving images to file system

I've read a number of threads about moving attachments to the file system, including tips about directory location and such. I have moved my attachments to the file system.

However, I haven't found many posts about the "User Picture Storage Type."

First, my VB db is 2.6 GB, and I have over 1.5 million posts. Will moving the user pictures to the file system help with overall performance?

Second, if I do move them, should the folders for these pictures be put outside the public_html folder like with attachments?

So, /home/myaccount/vbpictures or /home/myaccount/public_html/forums/vbpictures?

Moving the user pictures can help with performance. Maybe a little more than attachments because Avatars are used everywhere. However they must be within the web root if you move them. As they are just images and not subject to permissions like attachments, there are less security risks involved.
