[Forum] Database is over 3GB. Should I reduce the size?

I'm just looking over things on our server and our database is over 3 gigs. It takes a while to back up. I'm just curious if there is any way or reason to trim the size down a bit.

Are you storing attachments in the database or file system?

No, attachments are in the file system.

If its all posts/threads, then its fine, you'd have to prune a large chunk of data off.

Is there a way to "archive" the threads so they're not lost forever? But, possibly still be searchable?
