    @TheNewOne

    That's really odd! =/ Since I havent changed anything except the config file maybe it's just a permissions inconsistency or some such?

    It doesn't do it for me so it's hard to know - not that I would anyway :P What browser are you using, if you don't mind me asking?

    If any other newbies have this problem, try checking your control panel to see if the server name is localhost/127.0.01 or if it's hosted at another site (I'm hosted by iPage and they don't, it seems). Hope this helps somebody

    www.hobbystiller.com/forum/ is the URL. Ill PM you as well, thanks a lot..

    I've tried changing it to mysqli, changing the charset, changing from localhost to 127.0.0.1, nothing seems to make it connect.

    On the topic of what I said about how it had filled the db with tables... well, I deleted the db and recreated it to see if it was still doing that.. and its not. So it had access, but now doesnt? But its never got past this error stage.. Any help much appreciated

    EDIT: The server name was wrong, a bit of reading through the vBulletin Manual and cross-reference with my control panel got it sorted. Cheers guys

    The problem is I've done this. I've set up a database 'vbulletin'. Added a user 'forummaster'. And made a password. entered all these values into the config.php file.. and it says it cant connect. BUT its somehow managed to create all the vbulletin tables regardless?

    you cant use whats in the config as default you must fill it in with the correct info from your db name, user name and password. Is this a first install?

    Newbie MySQL configuration question

    Hi guys. I feel a bit bad posting this question but I can't seem to nut it out.

    I'm trying to install 4.1.8 and when I do, I get this error:

    Due to the following errors, the install/upgrade can not continue:
    • The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the includes/config.php file
    • Error description: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket ..../class_core.php on line 314
    The odd thing is, it seems to have created a bunch of tables in the vbulletin database. I'm a newbie by the way, but as far as I can tell I've done everything.

    I created a database 'vbulletin' with a username/password and put these in config.php. Should I be using the default username thats in config.php (root?). I tried 'root' with no password (ie whats in config.php.new by default) and that didn't seem to work either.

    Any help much appreciated!

    PS I'm running vDeck 4
