I have had database errors since upgrading to 4.1.7

I have had a similar message to error 2 since having vbulletin, I get it after sending an email to all forum members.
        Regards
        Trevor

              My wait_timeout setting is 60
              My max_connections setting is 240
              My max_allowed_packet is 10485760
              My max_user_connections is 18

So am I right in saying I should ask 1and1 to increase my max_connections and wait_timeout settings?
              Regards

Rang 1and1, apparently that is beyond the scope of their help line number. Oh Really!

I added max_connections=340 and wait_timeout=180 to my php.ini file with no effect.
                Regards

I believe the info is stored in a file called my.cnf on the server but I can't access it to edit it.

                    Connections is fine - 60 is a bit low for wait_timeout. I use 180.

Thanks Paul. I was in fact trying to change it to 180.
Although 1and1 say I should be able to change this setting I am clearly on a shared server and I can't edit the required file with ssh.
Their suggestion that it is adjustable with a couple of lines added to the php.ini file is nonsense as far as my research goes.

These settings are server wide global MySQL settings which affect all accounts on shared hosting server and can only be changed by root user in ssh2 telnet in /etc/my.cnf file or if on debian/ubuntu in /etc/mysql/my.cnf. You won't be able to make any changes as you don't have root user access or ssh2 telnet access.

As these are global settings, shared hosts will usually not make changes as it affects everyone and they usually set it to low wait_timeout and max_user_connections to limit usage in shared hosting environment. If you hit these limits, it's time to find a better web host as your current host's artificially set restrictive low limits are holding you back.

                            Thank you both very much.

1and1 do a virtual server package at 14.99 a month that does allow full root access, perhaps I should change my professional package to the virtual server package.

Could anyone advise if this package would be OK for my small forum and 15 web-sites that I run?

You could certainly run a small forum on it ok.

As to your 15 websites, that depends on how big / busy they are.
