  • New Server - Issues

We installed a new server (just acts as the web server) and now having issues with our vB4 sites.

    PHP 5.3.17 Apache 2.2.22

When you load FORUMHOME, you can see who is online, but you can't see the list of forums.

When you try to load a thread or actual forum you get: XYZ, you do not have permission to access this page or make a new thread on this page. However, if you set your HOSTS back to the old web server, they load fine.

We have mirrored all the Apache/PHP modules the previous web server has installed. All PHP settings are equal as well when you compare the two servers using PHPINFO.

What is wrong? Is vB4 not working with newer PHP/Apache?

It sounds like your new webserver is not configured correctly. Missing files, etc.

To confirm, there is no reason why vB4 would not work with PHP 5.3.17 Apache 2.2.22?

Lots of odd things. We have Invision and phpBB boards on the same server, none of those have issues.

When you login to the AdminCP even the left side is off.

Any idea on what module might be conflicting?

This is just a web server, that's it. No PHP files on it. We have a file server and it's fine, you can access the sites perfectly using the old web server. This is an issue with PHP/Apache or some module.

I thought the screen shot might help you give us some insight on what is causing it. Very unique issue.

The vBulletin files and file permissions are fine. They are on separate file server that is in production right now, hundreds of people are using them just fine using our old web server. If I set my HOST file back to the production server, everything is fine. This issue is related to PHP/Apache or a PHP module.

Zachery, can you please confirm the PHP/Apache versions listed are known to work fine with vB4.

It appears it's the internal caching system?

When we rebuild using the new server, the production server users can't see the forum anymore. Vice verse.

How does vB4 work in a load balancing setup?

We have memcache/config.php cache completely disabled.

This is the issue. New server does not show FORUMHOME, no thread will load, we rebuild cache and it works. However, then it stops working on the production server. If we do it on the production server, then the new server stops working.

We have memccache and all other caches completely disabled in config.php

Are you saying we need to enable memcache then rebuild in VBS Cache in order to make the sites work in a LB environment? Otherwise rebuilding cache makes the other web server not display correct?

                            Nothing in the error logs.

Appreciate your help but concerned your input is causing Zachery to ignore.

From our diagnosis it seems like vB4 will not load balance out of the box. The cache it creates gets saved on whatever web server you run it from, then another web server cannot access that TMP cache and therefore will not perform.

                            Is that correct Zachery?
