  • [Forum] User unbanning himself

I have a user who appears to be able to unban himself at will. The forum is running the latest vBulletin version, yet he is still able to remove a permanent ban and put himself back into the registered users group.

It may simply be some stupid trick that he is pulling, but I just can't see how he is achieving the effect. Can anyone shed any light on it and how to prevent it please?

Have you checked the Control Panel Logs to see what is in there?

Please don't PM or VM me for support - I only help out in the threads.

Not used the logs before - thanks for the tip. I checked the control panel logs and found that the user was logging in to the other Administrator's account and unbanning himself (the IP addresses matched).

So in fact it was a compromised admin account that caused the problems. The question now is how he got the password. The admin swears it was a unique password for the forum, which leaves a few possibilities, but none that seem likely.

Since you can access the control panel logs, you obviously have the necessary permissions to change passwords Etc, unless protected, do that then sort it out with any other admin you have.
