  • [Forum] Pages blank after server migration

After copying all of the files, database, and database settings to my new server all I can see is blank pages EXCEPT for the admincp login page, although, when I enter my username and password, i am redirected to another blank page. The settings look good, the db looks good, I have run the tools.php but, nothing seems to help.

Any help would be greatly appraciated

I turned on display_errors and I am seeing the same error I posted above. How can I turn off the facebook stuff if I can't login to the admincp?

Looks like I need this JSON thing for the facebook thing to work. My old server was running php 5.2 which has json extension while my new server is running php 5.1. I'd like to just shut off the facebook stuff for the time being and upgrade php later. I dont see anything obvious in the database. I have tried setting a few 1's to 0's but, I keep getting the same error.

To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

[Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

Next, disable all products (except vB Blog, vB CMS and Skimlinks if you have them.)

Admin CP -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Products -> Disable

Then manually uncheck all plugins that are not for 'vBulletin Blog' and vBulletin CMS' here:

Admin CP -> Plugins & Products -> Plugin Manager

You must do BOTH of those steps in order to disable all non vBulletin Modifications.

Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it.

Do you have the same problem?

Again, I have no access to my admincp. I can hit the login page but, when I click submit, I get a blank page with the same error I posted above. This is the same error I see on every page.

The server error is pretty clear. It needs the JSON extension to run but, I do not have that installed on my new server (php 5.1). Shutting off the facebook options should cure this issue, shouldn't it?

If my vb would stop looking for facebook stuff (ie it was turned off) this error which is causing the blank pages should no longer be an issue. Right?

Facebook requires that PHP is complied with JSON. I rea;l;y don't see how you can get that error if you turned on FB in vB prior to making this move.

Since this happened after a server move, then this issue is either related to the move (i.e., a bad backup and restore fo the database) or more likely an issue with that server itself.

If you have checked everything listed in the link I provided, then the next step is to contact the host of the new server and ask them to troubleshoot this.

The old server had JSON and facebook worked fine. The new server does not have JSON. Hence the error. I just need to turn the facebook option off... right? Can you please tell me how to disable the facebook type stuff without being about to log into the admincp?

I fear that some how I am doing a terrible job explaining this but, I feel like I have given a spot on description of the events and the error I am now receiving. If I am not, please help me give you the information you need to help me out here.

My new server (where I am seeing this error and blank pages) is running php 5.1 and the JSON extension is not running. Because JSON is not running on the new server, but it was on the old server, there is an option which is turned on (facebook) which will not run because the necessary requirements (JSON) are not available on this new server.

                    PLEASE help me.

I went down the list and did every single thing on your list (except those which require you to log into your admincp) and nothing helped. EXCEPT for the option to turn on display errors which caused all of the forum pages to spit out the same exact error.

All of the files were copied and the db was manually dumped and implemented with SSH. I have done the entire process twice with completely new dumps and overwriting all the files. Each time I have received that same exact error.

I thought you said you had already disabled Facebook. Unfortunately I do not know of any way to disable this without access to the Admin CP.

Have you tried disabling plugins? If you cannot log into the Admin CP then to disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

                      define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

This will disable all hooks and allow you to log in properly with no hooks running.

                      http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/disable_plugins

If that does not work and you went through everything on that list, then the next step is to contact your host. They will have to troubleshoot this via the server error logs.

Disabling the hooks did not solve the problem. The same error is still being displayed with hooks disabled.

This error I posted above is the only error in the error logs. So, there is nothing special to bring to my webhost. I need to either upgrade php (not an option) or turn off the facebook option.

Does anyone at vbulletin know how to change this setting without the admincp? The UI is obviously just executing a query and changing the DB. How can we do that manually?
