  • [Forum] Can't create/write to file '/tmp/#sql_..'

I got this error message from my vB4.1.2 today:

    MySQL Error : Can't create/write to file '/tmp/#sql_4486_0.MYI' (Errcode: 28)
    Error Number : 1
    Request Date : Sunday, March 6th 2011 @ 03:52:57 PM
    Error Date : Sunday, March 6th 2011 @ 03:52:57 PM
My forum is on a shared server, and I have to follow this up with my hosting provider.

Please will you tell me if I need to change permissions on ...public_html/tmp/
or is it the top level of the server: /tmp/

...or can you not say for sure?

    That error means:

Error code 28: No space left on device or Storage Engine

One or more partitions on your server is out of space or doesn't have enough space to complete this operation. Shutdown your forums (if you can) and contact your host immediately. You or your host will need to find out which partition is low on space and free up some more space.

That error clearly shows that the culprit is: /tmp
