  • [Forum] Stop posting in Child forum, but not sub child forum

    HI;

    In my main category:

    http://www.pawdogs.com/forums/#main-category

I have a Child forum called Emergency Information; which has sub / child forums.

I do not want posts to go directly into this category / forum:

    http://www.pawdogs.com/emergency-information/

But do want posts to go into it's sub forums such as:

Forum > Main Category > Emergency Information > Lost Pets

The only way I could find to do it is either making Emergency Information as a main category (instead of being under the Main Category) or to Lock it. I don't want it to show up as locked on the main page.

    Can I do this?

    Thanks
    Jamie

Sorry, I should have mentioned I did that. I would expect it to open a new page and show me the child forms. But it does nothing when I click on the link, it just stays on the home page.

The Act as forum=no works when I do that for a parent forum, just not on a child forum. Is that an unintended feature?

Maybe so! Sorry, never had occasion to do that, I just assumed that was the way it would work, silly me. Have to wait for a moderator I guess.

Okay; I see what is happening now:

This is the main forum page:

          http://www.pawdogs.com/forums/

Under the Main Categories section, there is a child of the Main Categories forum called

          "Emergency Information"

It is currently set to act as forum=no. It is a link; When you click on it, it shows this in the url bar:

          http://www.pawdogs.com/forums/#emergency-information

That doesn't do anything, but I just realized that is a anchor, and this child forum is too high up on the page for it to move down at all, so the link ends up looking like it isn't doing anything.

So I guess if I want it to go to a second page to display the child forums, then I have to leave it set to act as a forum=Yes, and the only way to prevent posting then, would be to lock the "Emergency Information" forum, does that sound correct? (I just didn't want the whole thing to show as locked from the main page)

I was thinking that it should go to a page that listed the child forums; like the way this sub forum does for example:

          http://www.pawdogs.com/pre-made-food...ist-foods-etc/

But I expected to see a list of all the child forums there. I guess it will only do this if it is enabled to act as a forum.

If I am wrong and there is a way to do what I want, please do let me know.

          Thanks very much,

Actually it does work and I have some set that way! MY SITE

Look down toward the bottom in "vendors and suppliers".

The problem is that it shows the "post new thread", but if you click on it, it does not work. Bug has been reported many times.

Your right, it does seem to work on your site. When I go here:

              http://blacksmith.org/forums/forums/37-Tools?

If you click to post, it says not accepting new posts, but it displays all the child forums, just what I was trying to do.

I wonder what I am doing differently / wrong.

I use VSa sub-forum manager to get everything to line up in even columns.

I have the exact same settings.

Does the sub-forum manager do anything other than line it up? Could that be why yours is working differently?

                    Thank You.

No, it worked correctly before. Put in a support ticket, be done in no time.
