    Thanks. That fits with the experiments I've done. Unfortunately it's confusing as it doesn't say 'that username is taken' just bounces you back to the manual registration form.

    It would be good to find a way to tell a user this is why they must register manually, I also agree this case may well be rare!

      Hi Mark,

      When the user gets bounced back to the normal screen, there is an error message at the top of the form. The message says that the user name has already been taken and it asks the user to choose another name. I'm sorry that I don't have a screen capture for an example, but it does show up in this case.

        Yep, I've got that now. I think it was a problem with Safari not showing it when using my iPhone, so that's all good!
