  • [Forum] Bots going up in activity?

Seriously...it was all fine and it all started yesterday and now we have had more than 10 registrations and 4 bans over the time gap of 2 days just as bots register. Some stay in email confirmation but some confirm the email and post advertisement to adult content which isn't really suited for the forums.

Can there be any particular reason to this? Just a random increase in bots? And after i blocked the email most of them were registering from they start registering with gmail email id's.

Are you using anti-spam measures such as StopForumSpam, Question & Answer or something else?

Once the bots find your forum; it's like a honey pot for them... words spreads in the bot world and your forum becomes a target. Just like the rest of us that deal with 100's of spam registrations (or attempts to register) each day.
      To be updated...

I can confirm that their activity has gone up drastically. I went from deleting one or two bots a week, and then suddenly I'm deleting 10-15 accounts a day.

I've had about 10 registrations per day for the last three days with "Man" listed for biography. I'm almost to point of setting a cron job to automatically ban users with just "man" in that field. Are these humans so they can get by recaptcha or did the bots crack recaptcha? I know this is in the vb4 section but I'm having the same problem lately running 3.84

                Seems they did.
From now on recaptcha is just as good as captcha.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

I'm seeing precisely that. The 'Man' thing. Across multiple forums.
