[Forum] When Perform a Backups Is It Required to Close vBulletin or Could Leave it Running?

Just wondering, everytime we backup using MySQLDump is it required to temporarily close vB... and re-open it once all backups are completed or it doesn't metter it the board is running or closing while backups are being performed?

    Thanks in advance,
    -LMN

    You should close the forums.

I personally don't close it. My site is pretty busy and even though my jobs run backups when there is a least number of users, that number is still 200+. The backup takes about 20-25 min to run, there is no way I want to close my site every night for half an hour (and this number will only grow as the database size increases).

Two things, it takes longer to do the backup because its running, users get a slower browser expirence because the tables are locked.

Zachery, that's very true..but the nature of my site doesn't permit me to close it down every night for half an hour and this number will only grown to a LONGER number. So I'd rather have my users experience a slower page loads than to have a sign that says CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE
