Thanks guys, I might actually consider moving. However, I just bought the 'deluxe' for two years a few months ago when everything was running fine. And now...

How does Namecheap shared compare to Hostgator shared?

I recommend Namecheap hosting (for shared), if you need any help moving your site from one host to the other, send me an email (services[at]mikeydesigns.net) or PM here on vB.com

I would never delete my user's content.

    Hi

About 7 days ago my forum has turned very slow, with Internal Server Errors popping up very often. I called and they told me everything was fine. They canceled a few queries and want me to wait a little and see if it helps. Surely it went back to normal.

Yesterday the same nightmare started again. I called and they told me they sent me an email earlier this week (see quoted msg above). If I can keep the file counts to be under 1024 in every folder it might help.

1, I deleted most of other files except for 4013's attachments. I then went to delete one of the albums and the file counts in the directory is still 1092. I guess vb didn't delete the actual physical file... Now I am not sure which ones they are in the directory... Need advice here.

2, For the long run, we do need a work around for this because only attached images will turned into previews in the cms.

3, After deleting most files, the forum speeds up just a hair, but still slow. This could be just luck, or my members are all fed up with the slow speed and went home. I am on 4.0.8 with a few template mods. Would it help if I upgrade to 4.1? Is 4.1 gold yet?

Thanks again and let me know.

That is frankly absurd. Besically what they are telling you is that you are not allowed to have more that 1024 attachments, albums, pic and sig pics total for your entire forums unless you store these in the database instead of the file system

Confirm this absurd policy with them and let me know what happens. We may have to make a special announcement warning about GoDaddy hosting if they really enforce such nonsense.

    Help: 1,024 Files Limit issues!

    Hi there,

I have just got an email from Godaddy saying this.

I also found this has been discussed before: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/archi.../t-345313.html

User 4013 is an editor on our forum. He has uploaded 500+ photos. Before I go and delete the files I want to see if you have any way to solve this...

This will be a major issue for many vb users in the long run.

    Thanks
    W

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    Regarding your hosting account xxxxxxx.com:

It has come to our attention that your xxxxxxx.com hosting account currently has an improper directory structure. More specifically, the following directories have greater than 1,024 files plus folders combined:

    ...
    1094,xxxxxxx/html/bz/attachment/4/0/1/3

The amount of files/folders in this directory is causing an issue with backing up your account, as well as maintenance operations on the shared server. Each directory should have a total maximum of 1,024 files and folders. Any more than this can cause file system latency and slowness when accessing FTP and hosting from the Web.

We respectfully request that by 2010-12-19 you reduce your directories to have no more than 1024 files and folders combined.

If this is not completed by then, we will have to bring the directories into compliance on your behalf. Additionally, we ask that any scripts that automatically create these files be optimized to not create more than this amount. Please note, further excessive directory structures could be subject to an account suspension.
