  • [Forum] Content Encoding Error

    hello, this is my forum url. today i tried to upgrade to 410 but forgot to turn off the forum during the upload of the vb files.

    now i get an error on my forum that reads:

    The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression

    i'm not sure how to fix this. please help me.

    First, try turning GZIP off here:

    Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Cookies and HTTP Header Options -> GZIP HTML Output -> No

    Sometimes this problem is caused when your server is already using GZIP and by turning this on in vB you were double compressing. This causes problems with some pages but not others. It also happens to some people and
    not others.

    If you cannot log into your Admin CP, you can run these queries in the SQL tab in phpMyAdmin:

    UPDATE setting SET value = '0' WHERE varname = 'gzipoutput';

    UPDATE datastore SET data=REPLACE(data,'s:10:"gzipoutput";i:1;','s:10:"gzipoutput";i:0;') WHERE title='options';

    Or you can also edit config.php and add this line:

    DEFINE('NOZIP', 1);

    ...right under the <?php line to disable GZIP.

      ok, i run these:

      UPDATE setting SET value = '0' WHERE varname = 'gzipoutput';

      UPDATE datastore SET data=REPLACE(data,'s:10:"gzipoutput";i:1;','s:10:" gzipoutput";i:0;') WHERE title='options';

      then did the 410 upgrade and now everything is working.

      but my question is.
      how do i revert

      UPDATE setting SET value = '0' WHERE varname = 'gzipoutput';

      UPDATE datastore SET data=REPLACE(data,'s:10:"gzipoutput";i:1;','s:10:" gzipoutput";i:0;') WHERE title='options';

      or how do i turn gzip on?

      that'll be through here right:

      Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Cookies and HTTP Header Options -> GZIP HTML Output -> No

        You don't need to do all of these. You just need to do the one that turns off GZIP.

          i did both:

          UPDATE setting SET value = '0' WHERE varname = 'gzipoutput';

          UPDATE datastore SET data=REPLACE(data,'s:10:"gzipoutput";i:1;','s:10:" gzipoutput";i:0;') WHERE title='options';

          forum is back up now.

          but is it necessary i revert this:

          UPDATE setting SET value = '0' WHERE varname = 'gzipoutput';

          UPDATE datastore SET data=REPLACE(data,'s:10:"gzipoutput";i:1;','s:10:" gzipoutput";i:0;') WHERE title='options';

          ?

            No, you do not have to do that. Those are alternate ways of accomplishing the same thing.
