[Forum] Step 3 of Installation problem

I'm a vbulletin member and trying to install vbulletin 4.0.8. I'm stuck on Step 3 of the installation as it says there is a database error which is this when setting up or creating the tables. I'm using a previous vbulletin database I had and it is installed correctly on the server.

    Database error in vBulletin :

    Invalid SQL:

    CREATE TABLE forumprefixset (
forumid INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
prefixsetid VARCHAR(25) NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
    PRIMARY KEY (forumid, prefixsetid)
    );

MySQL Error : Table 'forumprefixset' already exists

This means that you have either run this install before, or you are not installing into an empty database. The best option would be to make sure the database is empty of all content, then run install.php again.

So would that mean that I would empty the database, go back into the server after the full installation of vbulletin, and restore the current database over the empty one then run the install again? I am a web developer doing this for a client. What would be the best practice? Here's the breakdown.
      1) There was a current vbulletin database, about 62 megs. Client fired previous developer.
      2) I backed up that database and have it.
      3) Installed successfully MySQL on one of my GoDaddy servers. It was empty, but then I restored that empty database with the current 62 meg database and ran into this Step 3 error.

Thank you for all of your help!

If you have a 'full installation' of vB, then why are you installing it again?

It sounds like you should be running upgrade.php, not install.php.

I'm running a test site with the old database on my server before I run it completely on http://www.tydepoker.com. In this case I just created a temp directory to show the client that the original site content I can restore along with the 30,000 users inside of the current 62 meg database.

You no not run install.php for this. Given that, what is it you are trying to do?

Okay, the client decided to go with another host, my company. From there he had a database of about 30,000 users. So he switched hosts to me and I changed the "A" record over to my host. However, I wanted to "test" the old site database and install vbulletin on a directory outside of the domain JUST to test and for my client to see. Once confirmed, I'd delete off of the directory and install the full vbulletin on his actual domain which I am hosting, http://www.tydepoker.com

Well, this is appreciated to say the least. All I did was create a new empty database. Second, I took the existing 62 meg database, and restored the "empty" database. Then I edited the config.php file, uploaded all the files into a test directory, then ran into this step 3 problem.
So, do I just install a new, empty database, then install vbulletin, then go back and "restore" the 62 meg database and overwrite the empty one after vbulletin is installed? Hopefully I'm making a little sense.

That is because you do NOT run install.php. Sorry if that was not clear. If you do this correctly, then it will function without any install or upgrade script.

If I don't use the install.php, how do I use vbulletin in a temp directory?

I guess what I am saying is that the upload folder is in the temp directory, the empty database is ready, so how can I not use install.php?

You already have the database. Therefore install.php is not needed. If you follow the instructions in that link correctly, then you will have your test forum with the existing data.
