    HELP!!

I tried to rename forum vBCms Comments to Article Discussion on my forum and by mistake it was deleted instead now no one can post comments on any articles.

VERY BAD DESIGN THAT THIS GLOBAL FORUM CAN BE DELETED .

    HOW DO I FIX???

hey it's your fault you deleted it you did it right vBulletibn staff didn't took over YOUR forum to delete that however i think it can easly be restored if you have a backup otherwise any comments already posted will be lost the forum itself can always be restorerd by looking at the corosponding SQL queries in "/install/mysql-schema.php" and then run them through phpMyAdmin or through the admincp (not recommend for security)

I moved mine from were it was to the public forum and I have a question in http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?358654-vBCms-Comments-Display-Settings-on-CMS-article-Revert-to-No .

I just renamed the Comment forum on my test site and had no problem then making comments in the forum. It sounds to me like the OP actually deleted the forum instead of renaming it. It was a case of renaming it and it suddenly didn't work. He actually says he deleted it instead of editing it.

When I just clicked to delete that forum, I was given the standard message asking if I was sure I wanted to do that. I don't know what else you want vB to do to stop you from deleting a forum (any forum).

Please don't PM or VM me for support - I only help out in the threads.

If I post CSS and you don't know where it goes, throw it into the additional.css template.

True Lynne, I understood him to say he renamed it and it was lost. I would like to rename mine. I moved mine into another forum, trying to find a place were it would work again after the issue of it disappearing in 4.04 but I didn't dare rename it for fear it would no longer be connected to the articles. I will wait till I have 4.06 in to try and rename it. I am a little unsure of what I should do with it before i do the update. were would I move it back to? should I ? Cause it is visible when I select comments on the article options at least for a little while(awaiting feedback from members to confirm fix) and then the option changes on its own. I want it to show up in new post, but I do not like the way it makes one have to click a link to take you to the article. when a new article is posted it should take you to that article with the comments below it. I'm not sure I understand why the comments have to be listed in two formats.

Changes like this in an update really cause confusion, its easier when I make a change and something breaks, at least then I know were to look back to.

I use a laptop and the tuch pad when I was moving to click the button that said no it stopped on the yes button and the auto tap thing went off and clicked yes and there was no way for me to go back.

What more vBulletin could do is PREVENT someone from deleting that forum. Just like you can't delete some special usergroups like the moderator or admin group, those important groups will not delete even if you try to delete them you get an error message.

If this one forum holds ALL of comments from all the articles on the entire website vB should not allow this forum deleted even if you click yes to delete you should get an error because this is most critical forum, the CMS will not work correctly without it.

Always the tradeoff; more control or less control? It's not "critical", the CMS still functions and you have to restore from backup, inconvenient.

Yeah I have to agree the issue you have is with the auto click function on your laptop, although I would expect that like post and threads there would be an option to permanently delete and soft delete that could be an intermediate step.

You should not be able to delete the forum that is currently set as the "active" cms article forum. There should be a precaution that forces you to change the forum that the CMS stores comments to another forum before you can delete it.

ERROR "You cannot delete this forum becasue the CMS is currently setup to store article comments in this forum."

But honestly, you can say that about ANY forum that has threads in it. You don't want to accidentally delete any of them. That is why they ask if you are sure you want to do delete it.
