Sounds like your index on the post table were not updated properly. Here is a screen print on my post table structure using phpmyadmin. Compare it with yours. I'm using vb 4.0.2.

    add index's serperatly

So i updated to vb4 a while back and been putting this off cause im not sure what to do.

    vBulletin 4.0 Post Upgrade

Because of the size of your post table, new post and thread indexes were not added during the upgrade because this could take considerable time. Instead, a script has been provided to add these indexes seperately at /install/upgrade_400a1_indexes.php. Instructions for how to use the script can be found in that file.

While these indexes are not required to operate vBulletin, they should improve performance for large boards. Adding them is highly recommended.
i ran it last night and got this as a result

    Adding post indexes
One or more of the indexes being added is already defined If this query has already been run successfully, then this error can be safely ignored. If in doubt, check the indexes in mysql and ensure that they are correct

    ALTER TABLE tlpost
ADD INDEX threadid_visible_dateline (threadid, visible, dateline, userid, postid),
    ADD INDEX ipaddress (ipaddress),
    ADD INDEX dateline (dateline)

    Duplicate key name 'dateline'

    Adding thread indexes
One or more of the indexes being added is already defined If this query has already been run successfully, then this error can be safely ignored. If in doubt, check the indexes in mysql and ensure that they are correct

    ALTER TABLE tlthread
    DROP INDEX lastpost,
    ADD INDEX lastpost(lastpost),
    ADD INDEX forumid_lastpost(forumid, lastpost)

    Duplicate key name 'forumid_lastpost'
does that mean it did it?

if so how was it done so quick if it was supposed to take a while because of the size of my board?

    thanks
