  • [Forum] Continuing efforts to fix the cookie/refresh on my forum

When you login, it will say logging in, then redirect back to the main forum page and appear as though you are not logged in. If you refresh the page it says you are logged in.

It's the same if you are already logged in as well. If I am logged in from a previous session, and I go to my forums, I have to refresh the page in order to see any changes (it does say I am logged in though).

If I logout, and login under a different username, it will say I am logged in under the previous username until I refresh the browser. If I go into a thread it will go back to saying I'm logged in under my previous username until I refresh the page.

I have searched non-stop trying to find a final solution and thus far have been rather disappointed with the results. VB cookies have always worked just fine for me up until VB4.

here are my settings: (vBulletin 4.0.2 Patch Level 4)
    Session Timeout: 1800
    Path to Save Cookies: /
    Custom Setting: (currently blank)

    Cookie Domain: (blank)
    Custom Setting: (currently blank)

    GZIP HTML Output: yes
    GZIP Compression Level: 1
    Add Standard HTTP Headers: no
    Add No-Cache HTTP Headers: no
    Remove Redirection Message Pages: yes

    I added a test account:
    (U): testing
    (P): 123abc
    (URL):

Your issue is your forum is accessible via both of these links:
    concretecazoo.com
    www.concretecazoo.com
I've had this issue before, and it's quite common, please tell me the software you use for managing your webserver.

      Url?

Whoops, late response. But yes, the above user is correct. Change the cookie domain to ".yoursite.com" (no quotes, but note the period at the beginning).

Please don't PM or VM me for support - I only help out in the threads.

If I post CSS and you don't know where it goes, throw it into the additional.css template.

Thanks for the suggestions. When I changed my cookie domain to .concretekazoo.com I still get the same results.

When I try to log out it refreshes to the logged out page but if I click on any links in the forum it still says I'm logged in. Now even when I refresh the page it still says I'm logged in as well.

edit: I tested logging in on other browsers (safari, chrome, opera) and I'm still getting the same result. If I log in, it will say I'm logged in but then kick back to the forum index that says I'm not logged in.

I had to change it back to blank, that suggestion actually made it worse. People couldn't login or logout. At least with blank if you refreshed the page after you logged in/logged out the changes would take effect.

          Also, why can't VB4 handle http://mydomain.com + http://www.mydomain.com ? It always did before VB4.

I suggest to add this to your .htaccess file so you always force "http://www.concretekazoo.com/" and never allow ""http://concretekazoo.com".

            Code:
            RewriteEngine on
            rewritecond %{http_host} ^concretekazoo.com [nc]
            rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.concretekazoo.com/$1 [r=301,nc]

I can add that, but can you explain how that matters in this particular case?

I am entering the forum via http://www.mydomain.com during all of this.

I understand why it matters if people were coming to the forum http://mydomain.com

I added the redirect rule. The changes worked but haven't fixed the refresh/cookie issues.

A friend of mine has this issue too, but it seems to be localised, as in, I'm not able to recreate it. What web browser are you using? And are you using any plugins such as AdBlock?

I have tested this on Firefox, chrome, safari, and opera.

Firefox has a few web developer plug-ins installed but that's about it.

I thought it might be localized at first but I visit a lot of forums, many of which are VB based without any issues.

It appears to be a problem in VB 4.0, you might just have to grin and bear it, at least, until a member of the vbulletin staff can find out why this is an issue and release a patch.

Thanks Kamern for your suggestions and ideas. It's tough to not get frustrated about this. Mainly because my bosses are down my throat over something I feel as though I have little control over.

Might want to create a support ticket.

You (and everyone who has logged in prior to the cookie change) need to clear your browser cache before the new cookie will come down.
