  • [Forum] Switching Webhosts

    Hello vbulletin.com community,

I have been a faithful VB customer for almost 5 years now, and have been with my website hosting company for the same amount of time.

It is now time for me to move on from this webhost, as they have told me my showthread.php file is using too much CPU % for their "shared" hosting account.

Anyway, I need to move to a new webhost ASAP. I have a new host picked out.. but I am curious as to what I need to do in order to have a smooth transition of VB from my old webhost to my new one?

I know I need to make a backup of the forum database.. should I do this through Admin CP or through the MyPHP Admin panel of my webhost's CPanel? I am thinking it would make sense to copy the SQL straight from the MyPHP Admin panel and then just re-create the database on the new webhost.

I would also like to point out that I have the full blown VB package (Forums/Blog/CMS), if that makes a difference.

Any help with this process would be greatly appreciated, and my users would be appreciative as well

    Thanks!

I had my new host do a cPanel to cPanel transfer.
I kept my account name the same with the new host.
    It was completely seamless.

Unfortunately my new web host uses vdeck instead of CPanel

Thanks for taking the time to reply though.

Then in the post I've just backed up all my files and databases through cPanel.
Do this while you still have access to old site for a short time.

Alright I'll give that a shot.

          Thanks
