  • [Forum] Changes to New Template are Not Showing Up

I have created a new style template in vB 4.0.3 (and "Allow User Selection" is set to Yes). I first tried it as a child of the default style and then tried it as "no parent." Each time I get the same result. NONE of the stylevars changes has any effect.

For example, I changed the doc_background var to some hideous test color...and nothing happened. Same for body_background.

This is very strange because my currently active skin is a template I created. It is also VERY frustrating. I know I'm not the first person to have this problem, but I haven't found a solution by searching. Can anyone help????

Can you give us a link to see this along with the styleid (it must be selectable in the Style Manager and you must allow user selection in vboptions > Style & Language Settings > Allow Users To Change Styles > Yes).

Please don't PM or VM me for support - I only help out in the threads.

If I post CSS and you don't know where it goes, throw it into the additional.css template.

I've changed the style and language settings to allow that, although I REALLY don't want a style that I'm tinkering with to be publicly accessible.

      Changes still not showing.

Actually, it IS showing, now that I changed the Style & Language setting and cleared my cache. Is there any way to work on this style without the general public being able to see it?

You should be able to turn it off. However, when you are working on it, you may have to do a Force Refresh on the pages to force your browser to get the latest CSS straight from the server everytime you make a change.

No problem with the force refresh. Can you be more specific on this part of your reply? Will I have to disable/enable the style EVERY time I make and want to test a change to the new style?

I mean, you should be able to uncheck it in your Style Manager and then click on the link in your Style Manager to have it show up to *you* on your site. (I'm assuming you are the admin and have admin permissions.)

                Worked! Thanks.

Just for the sake of summary:
                -Add the style template
-Make sure Allow User Selection is Yes in template options
-Make sure Allow Users to Change Styles is Yes in vB options
-Uncheck the template checkbox in the Style Manager
