I only wish that VB team make it easier to change simple thing, such as color & font or better document.
What exactly is so hard in changing the color and fonts?

Just download these files: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/entry...F-Documents%29 , read them and do your thing.

The main thing I hear users complaining about are really features that they aren't used working with in PhpBB.

There is very little knowledge out there to help tackle some issues , the maze of options are a mess in the admin cp, I could not recommend anyone to upgrade.

When a major browser like IE 7 has issues, I would quesiton the level of testing done.

Having been a VBulletin admion for 8 years, and many upgrades, this has not gone smoothly. I have learned some valuable lessons.

Some bugs were fixed in 4.0.3. For the bugs I'm tracking, quite a few of them have been addressed for 4.0.4, so looking forward to that. Someday soon we might have a vBulletin version that I don't spend time hacking on the PHP source files to fix bugs before I apply the upgrade.

Same here, the only problem I had was importing attachments from Phpbb to Vb 4.0.3, for the rest no serieus issues here apart from the know WYSIWYG bug and that a link to the last post in a tread isn't working.

About the stylevars I realy don't have any problems. I downloaded a PDF explaining what every stylevar does (including pictures) played around for a while and was very happy with the result. The server load was at 0.17 but hey, I've got a really small community at the moment and who knows what will happen with the new site, so just in case I did a bit of tweaking in the showforum page as suggested here: http://articles.digitalpoint.com/content.php?r=7-Optimize-vBulletin-4 it was a piece of cake and sped things up as well. The server load dropped to 0.02, so why this code isn't used out the box beats me. It helps that I'm running on a dedicated self owned server with an Intel X25-E for the database, 8GB RAM and a Q8400 CPU, so we'll see how things scale up in the future.

Just in case I've kept the default VB theme installed, but not viewable for the users, so if there is a problem in my template I can always crosscheck it with the VB theme and if the problem then still exists support is just a click away.

One of the main reasons I bought vBulletin was because of its ability to be customized with mods and skinning but after the ridiculous style var system and now every time I read about a problem or needed to submit a support ticket the first solution is always revert you setup back to default removing the mods and such.

    Whats the point then?

I didn't spend months setting up my site to look and function the way I needed it to to constantly have to remove or reapply my changes.
The Changes I made work just fine in 4.0.2 PL4.
The minor bugs in PL4 that effected my site I was able to fix myself by either removing a bad widget I.E. CMS Calender widget dates wrong or I just didn't need the feature that had a problem
I will not be upgrading until I see truly STABLE updates not just claims of stability.

I didn't pay for this product to be a beta tester I expected this product to function as claimed!!!!

As i work with vBulletin everyday (http://vb4style.com) ive seen some fixes within the templates, not all issues have been addressed.. my main concern is the sheer amount of pointless / conflicting stylevars being used.. this needs to be cleaned up and fast... we are currently hard coding our styles around our own .CSS edits rather than using 100+ pointless stylevars no one even uses anyway.. which is fine by us we don't mind doing this, it would just be much easier on the end user with less stylevars, and NO MORE CONFLICTING STYLEVARS...

As for general bugs.. i am quite pleased with the current forward movement in terms of development, i was angry i paid out $300- for software that was plagued in problems at first, slowly but surely VB.com developers are instilling continence back a proven system, i and my team are enjoying working with VB4.

for some reason ever since i upgraded to 4.0.2 PL4 to 4.0.3 new users can register but it wont let them log in, it says they have entered an invalid username or password. i post this in the support/trouble shooting thread for v4 but no one has helped
Same problem.. except my users can log in, they just can't change their passwords.. this then asks the usr to confirm their original password yet there is no field for this.. i reported this also and no one replied..

Just did an update from 4.0 PL1 to 4.0.3 in my test environment and I'd have to say it was a complete success minus the modifications I'll need to reapply. I'll worry about reapplying them once I upgrade production tomorrow night tho.

I am not running a super complex site. I am fairly happy with 4.0.3 now that it has been in place and tweaked for a couple of weeks. My users are no longer complaining. It was a rough first couple of days though. There were a couple of things I did wrong - but that's my fault not the software's fault. Probably would have been better to wait until 4.0.5.

The stylevars and templates are horribly documented in my opinion.

Shoot I'm a 4.0.2er and this thread scares the bejeezus out of me as I have a heavily modded board. I've been contemplating this upgrade since its release and have yet to pull the trigger. Maybe I should wait for 4.0.4? lolz

So we're not the only ones. We're discussing this in the following thread: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...oes-not-update.

I am sure this was fixed in 4.02 or maybe 4.01, not sure what changed. Perhaps must submit a bug report again.
