  • [Forum] My greek members list is a mess!

    Hi,

All members of my forum have their usernames written in greek! Greek names written with greek letters!

The vb members' list appears according to the latin alphabet which is soooooo not-working for us! I wish there was a way to pick the sorting alphabet there.

What's more: the usernames appear in a totally random order! There is no apparent sorting whatsoever! (alpha, then epsilon, then alpha again etc...)

My members' list is a total mess because there was no prevention for forums working with non-latin usernames!

I have mentioned this in the Suggestions forum, some months ago, but I have the feeling that nobody has really looked into it! (for one thing, noone replied)

I know that the vb crew must be having their hands full, right now, with issues concerning the new vb version but I'd really appreciate some feedback here.

and plz allow me to note this once more: Being international is not merely a question of geographical spreading but also a question of philosophy and practical use.

    thanks,
    Dimitris

ps – i'm willing to help. I've been working over a year now trying to have my forum working fully in greek and i can brief you about different issues that have to been taken care of.

This is not specifically a vBulletin issue - I have seen complaints on the MySQL boards repeatedly about problems with sorting Russian and Greek character sets.

I don't have a solution for you but I just wanted to point out that there may not be a direct solution from vBulletin either.

If I do happen to run across something that would help, I'll post a note here with a referring link.

Completely understand - I hope that there is a solution out there that just has not been uncovered yet. A quick search turns up a ton of info, but I don't know enough about either character set to really know what is a solution and what's not. Again, if I do see something, I'll post a link here.
