[Forum] Persistent connections?

I was getting a lot of db errors from my host. They disabled persistent connections both in the php.ini and in vb.

Am I losing any features as a result? Should I have persistent connections enabled (and therefore look for a different host)? What is the advantage of having them enabled?

Persistent connections take up system resources when they are not needed.

Turning off persistent connections, the database connection is released once a forum page is finished loading.

With it turned on, the connection is maintained.

You are not losing a feature, per se.

The benefit to having these on depends on how much activity passes through your server. For smaller or mid-size sites, there is not a noticeable difference.
