    Will Internet Explorer 7/8 users have to make changes in Compatibility View Settings?

    Since we upgraded from VB3 to VB 4, many of our members are reporting more errors and issues than those who are using Google Chrome and other web browsers.

    The Compatiabilty Mode has been deleted from vB4, this setting is not longer appearing at the admincp
    while(true){
    if(
    $someone->needsHelp() && $i->canHelp()) $post->help();
    if(
    $i->findBug()) $post->bug();
    }

      What does that mean if my members are reporting their IE 7 and IE 8 browsers showing issues that are not a problem with Chrome or Firefox?

          You need to explain what problems your users are reporting. The best thing to do is that you pass them through to the bug tracker if they are not there already!
          while(true){
          if(
          $someone->needsHelp() && $i->canHelp()) $post->help();
          if(
          $i->findBug()) $post->bug();
          }

            I had noticed, if you click on "Reply With Quote", you have to scroll to the top of the page then pan right to view the text box. (Using IE 7)
            I have asked the member for screen shots to see what he means.

              In the above image, using IE 7 when he clicked on Robert's post to Reply With Quote, the Quick Reply Box immediately appeared to the far right of the post, instead of underneath the post.

              Here is another view of where the Quick Reply appeared to the far right of Robert's regular post:

              I am using Internet Explorer 8, and I see that when I click on the nav bar item titled NEW POSTS, 50% of all of the forum titles (far right column) are blank!

              There are some serious issues with IE 7 and 8 that I need VB to debug. Otherwise there will be millions of members worldwide who will be complaining about how VB 4 looks, and we can't be telling all of them to change to Firefox or Google Chrome.

                  I think you scared them away with the "millions of members worldwide who will be complaining" statement. I have double the bounce rate for IE users than any other browser. I hate IE just as much as the next guy, but some people can't change because either their work won't let them or for some other reason.

                    I am not getting that in IE7 compatabliy mode in IE8. I unfortunatly do not have IE7 to test on at this time.

                      I think I misunderstood what you were writing.

                      Should I be telling my members who use IE 8 that they should do something with their browser to switch it to Compatibility Mode? If so, how do they do that (so I can post the instructions and try it myself)

                        I have a MAJOR problem with the CMS display being totally borked when viewed in IE7 compatabliy mode in IE8 - see this thread http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...plated-in-IE7-!!!!

                        I've followed the advice and created a brand new default style, disabled every single installed product and I am still having the same problem on the home page of youtube clips breaking out of one column and across two columns OR breaking out of one column and under the sidebar in IE7 - frankly it's a total bloody mess.

                        Home page: http://doctorwatson.info/

                        The odd thing is the video page doesn't have the same problem: http://doctorwatson.info/content/84-...b-%28videos%29

                        Any advice?

                          By default your site should be shown in IE8 as IE8 mode and not IE7 mode. They should not enable compatablity mode on your site. They can make sure they're not running in compatablity mode by pressing f12 and checking that Browser mode is IE8 and Document Mode is IE8.

                              Sorry, but I saw this thread about IE7 compatabliy so assumed any IE7 compatabliy problems could be added to the discussion.

                              * edit: just noticed this thread is pre-fixed as 'Forum', whereas my problem is 'CMS'.

                              Perhaps you could give me advice on the thread I started yesterday, linked in the above post.
