  • [Forum] How do I get rid of forum statistics and "welcome to our newest user"

    We have a constant stream of spammers trying to register with our forum; they register and turn up in "users awaiting moderation", we ban them permanently which allows us to monitor IP addresses, then for those IP addresses that keep coming up we add them to the firewall to block any further access. That's all fine but the forum statistics area still says "welcome to our newest member[name of spammer]" and some of those names are obviously people trying to spread porn. We want to turn this feature off but can't. We see no value in the statistics either, they seem completely pointless from a user's point of view to us, but we can't hide them.

    Can I ask, how do we get rid of these in vB4?

    You would need to edit the templat FORUMHOME. Find this code and remove it and you will get rid of that Site Statistics Block:
    Code:
                <div id="wgo_stats" class="wgo_subblock">
                    <h3><img src="{vb:stylevar imgdir_misc}/forum_stats.png" alt="{vb:rawphrase x_statistics, {vb:raw vboptions.bbtitle}}" />{vb:rawphrase x_statistics, {vb:raw vboptions.bbtitle}}</h3>
                    <div>
                        <dl>
                            <dt>{vb:rawphrase threads}</dt>
                                <dd>{vb:raw totalthreads}</dd>
                            <dt>{vb:rawphrase posts}</dt>
                                <dd>{vb:raw totalposts}</dd>
                            <dt>{vb:rawphrase members}</dt>
                                <dd>{vb:raw numbermembers}</dd>
                            <vb:if condition="$show['activemembers']">
                                                    <dt>{vb:rawphrase active_members}</dt>
                                                             <dd>{vb:raw activemembers}</dd>
                                                    </vb:if>
                        </dl>
                        <p>{vb:rawphrase welcome_to_our_newest_member_x, {vb:link member, {vb:raw newuserinfo}}, {vb:raw newuserinfo.username}}</p>
                        {vb:raw template_hook.forumhome_wgo_stats}
                    </div>
                </div>

        what if I just want to remove the member count from the statistics? I've tried to just take out this part of the code and I get a "adding child to non-existent node!" error and no effect takes place. Any ideas?

        <dt>{vb:rawphrase members}</dt>
        <dd>{vb:raw numbermembers}</dd>
        <vb:if condition="$show['activemembers']">
        <dt>{vb:rawphrase active_members}</dt>

        <dd>{vb:raw activemembers}</dd>

          You can't remove just the first part of an <if> statement. In your code above, you are try to do just that. You need to remove the </if> also.

            Lynne, I'm a noob. Can you please highlight the area I exactly need to remove to hide just the member count total on the stat section? I'm not clear on what you mean. Thanks in advance.

                To remove the total number of members and active members, at the FORUMHOME template find the following code and either remove it or comment it out

                HTML Code:
                <dt>{vb:rawphrase members}</dt>
                                            <dd>{vb:raw numbermembers}</dd>
                                        <vb:if condition="$show['activemembers']">
                                                                <dt>{vb:rawphrase active_members}</dt>
                                                                         <dd>{vb:raw activemembers}</dd>
                                                                </vb:if>
