Smilies I've managed to sort out.

    I added a replacement variable for <img src="images/smilies
and changed it to <img src="images/smilies/ws

where ws is the folder where I store black and white images of the text that's ordinarily replaced.

I was toying with adding a stylevar for smilie path, but didn't know how this would sit with the smilie path defined in the smilie manager.

Used to be, (I loaded 3.6 and checked) you could change the smilie path by style, but unfortunately among all the stylevars for images, Smilies aren't there.

Perhaps this is something that could be added to a future release?

It would add to the ability to customize your forum's 'look' by having smilie sets that fit with the skin.

    Just a thought.

The avatars I sorted by editing the postbit template, fairly straightforward.

You may want to take a look at a Mobile Style over on vb.org and see what they have done to disable images for users using that skin. If I recall, they use a couple of Replacement Variables:

    Code:
    Search for text: img src="http
    Replacement text: a href="http
    AND
    Code:
    Search for text: border="0" alt="" />
    Replace with text: target="_blank">Image</a>
    See if that helps.

Well I edited the postbit legacy template to root out the avatars, but yeah, my next mission of not parsing certain bbcode, whether it be image or video tags, or smilies, looks like itll have to be done another way.

You used to be able to change the smilie path by style, but that appears to no longer be an option. Of course I went straight from 3.6 to 4.0.1 so it may have been like that a while.

Unfortunately, removing images from the code is not something you can do by just removing something for a template. Your bets bet is probably writing the plugin, like I suggested.

Indeed they can, but that is then stored as part of the user profile. When they get home from work they would, I assume have to make the changes again to show them.

As styles are set on a per computer/session basis, i.e, my laptop is in worksafe mode but my desktop is still in vb default etc....

    I have lazy users.

I guess I was hoping you'd say "go to post bit and delete the line...." etc...

I'll go have a better look. Perhaps I'm just being as lazy as I suggest the users are....

You realize users can turn off avatars and images in their User CP/Settings page, right? If you do want to have a whole style that definitely doesn't show avatars or images and if you have a little bit of coding ability, you can probably use those same variables from the usercp and set them to false for that style and then you won't have to edit the template. The images will show up as links instead of actual images. If you need help with that, you should post over on vbulletin.org which is the modification site.

    Avatar and images by style

After an extensive search I've come up with nothing, so forgive me if this has already been asked.

What I'd like to do is have a style where avatars and images are not displayed.

I imagine this would be acheived by editing the postbit template within the style, but for the life of me I can't figure out what to edit.

    Any help gratefully received.
