[Forum] View 'Post button' in Quoted post takes you to start of thread, not single post

As the title states, when the "view post" button in a quoted post is clicked (the one circled in the image), it takes our users to the start of a thread, instead of to the post it should.

Is this just happening on my forum, or has anyone else experienced it? I did use search but got no results. Had a look through the bug tracker also and that thing just doesnt make sense to me, sorry.

Seems to work fine here on vB.com so just wondering if its like the need_url thing I've been getting.

Can you look in the page source and see what the url is that it is pointing to? Is this happening for every quote on your site or just quotes since 4.0.1 ?

Hover over the button and it shows the post # like it should.


Its not happening for every quote - just some. In both IE 8 and FireFox.

We only recently upgraded from 3.8 (i think that was the version number) to 4.0.1, we didnt go through 4.0.0 at all.

Edited to add:
Just checked the page source for a different quote and it points to the post but ends up at the first page of the thread again.

Have you verified that the postid is valid and it isn't a moderated post perhaps (or deleted or hidden)? I just tested this on my site and if I put in a postid that is to a moderated post, it goes to the top of the thread.

Posts arent moderated, the post ID is valid, so that doesn't explain it yet.

If you go to the last page, there's a quoted post in one of the replies. Clicking the "View Post" button in the quoted bit takes you (well, me) back to the very start of the thread rather than the post its supposed to.

Ah, OK. I see that that is a post from pre-vB4 and it has the 'old' url for a post. You are using one of the new friendly URLs options now. Did you do anything in your htaccess to redirect this old urls to the new format? I know there is this article - Mod Rewrite Friendly URLs => .htaccess I am no htaccess guru, but taking a quick look at that, it doesn't look like it addresses the quote post link. You may want to read the comments and see if it is addressed there.

It happens with the new URLs too. That one was just one I found to show you as an example. More recent ones are behind the closed sections.

I would check to see if it's in the bug tracker already, and if not, enter it. It sounds like something they need to change in regards to how the link is created for other options in Friendly URLs.
