    I just got an email this AM saying that I got this error. Anything to be concerned about?

    Not really; it looks like the mysql server timed out for whatever reason; subsequently this cron task will execute again to resolve the issue; if this happens consistently you will need to adjust your timeout values possibly.

      I don't understand why MySQL doesn't just call it "timeout" instead of "Has gone away"

        Yeah, I've seen this with other mySQL based apps. Mind you, at least it's mildly helpful. Unlike microsofts OE Exception errors, or the Commodore Amigas "Guru Meditation".
