  • [Forum] Publishing Suite 4.0 - your main URL that directs to your forum may now go to a blank

There should be some way to address this, but I don't know how yet.

I upgraded from 3.8.4 to 4.0 on one of my forums, and I did not back up, so I am stuck with 4.0 on this one forum. Read about that nightmare here

Anyway, here is the issue. My backlinks and such all direct people to my forum main page

    http://www.______.com/forums/

However, once you upgrade to 4.0 Publishing Suite, that url goes absolutely nowhere. It just keeps clicking between two different URLs and ends up at http://www.___________.com/forums/content/
which is either nonexistent (Redirect Loop Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete) or the blank Home page of the website (not the forum front page).

I assume there is some way to work around this, I hope. Some setting I assume.

I mean, if you have created tons of backlinks directing to your forum home page and now that goes to either a blank page or nowhere, that is a serious issue!

Another thing I don't like is that if someone clicks the Home page on my forum which is
    http://www._______.com/forums/content/
and does end up on the Home page, there is nothing there (no content) and there seems no way to click to get to the forums themselves.

The new URL for the forum front page has now become:
    http://www._________.com/forums/forum.php

It also seems to me that 4.0 runs much slower than 3.8.4 I am running a 3.8.4 forum, which has a LOT more traffic on the same host (same plan) as my lower traffic 4.0 forum, and the 4.0 forum is ridiculously slow compared to the older version.

I did open one, but it seems like lately it takes several days for response.

The word back from vbulletin tech support is that this is some Bug in the software. Will advise - problem remains. Thanks.

Here is how to fix it:

remove index.php, and rename the forum.php to index.php

            AND

AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Forums Home Page Options > Script Name for Forum Home Page

            set this to index
