    I am with support now, so trying a few things such as an ip address instead of localhost for servername.
    I am asking support now about the full read/write/delete access

    Most often database connection issues are the result of the wrong database name, the wrong username, the wrong password, or the wrong servername.

    Your hosting may not use "localhost" so you should also confirm that as being the correct server name.

    Did you ask your host to give that username full read/write/delete/ access to the database?

    I am still willing to pay although I am thinking the database is there, I have created it, the config file matches the database and username etc.
    So it would more be a pay to solve the problem.

    Ok I will recheck everything
    User: ptrainer_Seral
    Database: ptrainer_Gym-Fundamentals
    User has all privileges checked

    I changed the users password to match what is in my config file

    In my config file I have
    $config['Database']['dbname'] = 'ptrainer_Gym-Fundamentals';
    $config['MasterServer']['username'] = 'ptrainer_Seral';
    $config['MasterServer']['password'] = ‘set as password entered’;

    Run Install:
    Due to the following errors, the install/upgrade can not continue:
    The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the includes/config.php file
    Error description: mysqli_real_connect(): (28000/1045): Access denied for user 'ptrainer_Seral'@'localhost' (using password: YES) /home2/ptrainer/public_html/gym-fundamentals.com/Forum/includes/class_core.php on line 1359

    I don't understand - I have checked everything and still get the error message

    I have even just added a new user and added all privileges to this this new user ptrainer_gfseral
    Updated the config file and same error message

    Due to the following errors, the install/upgrade can not continue:
    The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the includes/config.php file
    Error description: mysqli_real_connect(): (28000/1045): Access denied for user 'ptrainer_gfseral'@'localhost' (using password: YES) /home2/ptrainer/public_html/gym-fundamentals.com/Forum/includes/class_core.php on line 1359

    Can you see any typos?
    I will try a different password and see if that works

    Should I change something in here perhaps:

    // ****** MASTER DATABASE SERVER NAME AND PORT ******
    // This is the hostname or IP address and port of the database server.
    // If you are unsure of what to put here, leave the default values.
    //
    // Note: If you are using IIS 7+ and MySQL is on the same machine, you
    // need to use 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost
    $config['MasterServer']['servername'] = 'localhost';
    $config['MasterServer']['port'] = 3306;

    So in Summary the database is there
    Access is denied although I have set all privileges, and the same password

    It's simply that the username and password is correct, and the user needs to have full permissions on the database.

    What did you end up changing?

    I did chat with Hostgator live chat for support.

    It does seem like my database is created. I have checked and rechecked the includes/config.php file.
    I will check again. It's doing my head in now though and need this sorted asap

    I have even tried re-creating the database with the same name as in the config file and I got the message The database “ptrainer_Gym-Fundamentals” already exists.

    When trying to create it

    Does it matter if I host many domains on one hosting package?

    Could there be something else I am missing, something so simple?
    Do I have to create a table in this database or anything?
    Does lowercase and uppercase matter. They match but should they all be lowercase?

    Its very easy to fix it , you can make sure about permission for database and username

    and go to the config file and change

    DBNAME with your database name

    $config['Database']['dbname'] = 'DBNAME';

    USERNAME with db username

    $config['MasterServer']['username'] = 'USERNAME';

    PW with your username password
    $config['MasterServer']['password'] = 'PW';

    if you want more help you can pm me and i will try to do the best

    Best Regards
    Mahmoud

    To be honest, all that error means is that your database connection credentials (in the file /includes/config.php) are incorrect.

    You need to check these with your host...there isn't much we could do on a paid install to fix it, unless you gave us access to your server control panel where we could create the database ourselves. Your hosts can help with this though.

    Paying for an installation

    Hi

    I have tried to install but have an issue. I get the following message
    'Due to the following errors, the install/upgrade can not continue:
    • The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the includes/config.php file
    • Error description: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'edited out'@'localhost' (using password: YES) /home2/ptrainer/public_html/......../class_core.php on line 317

    If I pay for an installation would you be able to resolve this?
