Just kind of wanted to get some opinions before I upgrade. I've been scared to upgrade from my 3.8 board for years because it's so big and I have customized it so much over the years, and I'm just nervous about something going haywire, but I think now I have to take the plunge. My board has about 25,000 members and 3,000,000+ posts.
So in preparation to move to 4.2.2 I set up a 4.2.2 test site and bought a template I liked, and edited it. So I changed it a bit, set it up the way I like, etc. So my question is first off. Is there a way to that I can use that board to upgrade to, or am I stuck starting off with the base 4.2.2 and have to re-do all that work afterwards. It would be nice just to transfer the new templates that I edited, etc. so I don't have to do my work twice when I upgrade. Basically has anyone else set up a test site like that, and upgraded to it with the changes already intact?
Secondly, in case something goes crazy when I go from 3.8 to 4.2, what besides backing up the current database should I do in case I need to revert back?. Obviously if I overwrite the files on the server with the new 4.2.2 files, I can't go back to 3.8 if I need to. What is the best way to perserve the old site in case worse comes to worse.
I really appreciate any insight as I have literally contemplated this upgrade for years, but my site has been so entrenched in 3.8 I've been really scared to do it.
Thank you!
