[Forum] Scared to install VB suite

So I have bought the basic VB forum 4.1.7 (Oct 11) and Ive now bought the suite..

Im very unsure when it comes to all of this.. Im worried ill wipe out all of my current postings..
Is there anyone that offers a upgrading service.. I thought I read vb will not do it if the site is up and running..

    Thanks for any help..

Backup your files AND database, download them to your computer.
    Disable all your addons.
Upload the Suite's files overwriting the existing files on the server.

    Should work.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

You'd have to be very ignorant of how MySQL and PHP are used in conjunction with each other. The upgrade process involves database changes and the replacing of PHP files but I sincerely doubt anyone has ever encountered the issue of having all posts removed from the database. Just be careful, mindful, and take a few backups of the files and database (a few for redundancy), then do the upgrade. Don't be scared. We're here to help.

        Regards,

        Dustin

Yeah, make backups of your files and the MySQL database just to be safe. I've been using MySQLDumper to backup databases, it seems to work really well. Afterward, upload the new files (overwriting the old files on your server) except for install/install.php and includes/config.php.new, then run the upgrade script (http://www,yoursite,com/install/upgrade.php). Loco.M linked to the manual page that goes more in depth with upgrading

It's actually very quick too have you noticed . On top of that anytime I have needed to restore a backup there have been zero issues . I do however, run a backup then remove the files from server, all of them despite .htaccess protection and then simply re-upload all files minus the actual backups when wanting to do another backup... time consuming yes however your not leaving another means of accessing your database in place for anyone to try and hack into imo.
