Dear community,
I am in the process of using my VB 4.1.10 and have decided to do a fresh install rather than upgrading. This was the best choice for me as my 3.4 forum was riddled with broken modifications, modified DB etc, which I didn't want to carry across and have a fresh forum.
What I do want to do is move all my 3.4 threads and their attachments to my new VB forum. At the moment they are stored on the file system but I can move them back into the database.
Now my question is,what would be the best way of accomplishing this? Are there any tools or scripts that could help me with this process or anyone providing this kind of support service?
My current plan is to move the attachments back into database and do a selective mysql dump of the tables. Adjust the user ids to one single ID (as user ID's will be different) and import the dumped sql file back into 4.1.10, return to filesystem.
So all posts will end up being created by one predefined user, including threads and posts (minus replies, only firstpost). Now I know I need to keep the integrity of the relations between thread > post > attachment and hopefully moving it while its in the DB will make it easier when changing userid to one predefined compared to leaving it in the filesystem.
I am also aware that 4.1.10 has a different structure in the DB compared to 3.4 so I will just have to fill in and match the columns as best as I can so that at least everything links up together.
Now the first issue I can already see is regarding ID's and auto incremental values and I am sure I will have a tons of other issues too so any suggestions would be most appreciated.
