Upgrade to 4.2.1 Ok - but ACP Goes Blank

Greetings -

I am in the process of upgrading our site from 4.1.x to 4.2.1 - and am using my test installation to check things before I do it to the live site. The upgrade appears to go fine - but when I get to the ACP at the end of it, and login, the screen below the header goes blank and it hangs - leaving a white, blank screen.

I still have two plug-ins running - but cannot test further today (my daily backup limit has been reached), but I'm wondering if anyone else has hit this problem at the ACP after an upgrade to 4.2.1...

To disable the plugin/hook system completely, edit includes/config.php and add the following code:
