  • [Forum] Importing content only...

    Hi Guys,

My forum has been running since 2003, has been upgraded, had addons added and removed and generally been beaten, used and abused...

I get lots of sql errors within the admin panel and silly things like the search function doesnt actually search...

My plan is to basically wipe the server and start fresh. I want a stripped clean vbulletin installation, then I want to add the forum content and users, then I'll prep the modules / addons etc so that I dont have a load of old rubbish hanging around - for example when I try to remove a plugin I get an sql error telling my the database doesnt exist. but if I just disable it then thats fine...

My question is, Can you export just the users, usergroups and forum content easily or would I be better paying a VBulletin expert to check, clean and repair my current install?

There's no real SQL errors (aside from crashed/corrupt tables) that can't be fixed by disabling all modifications and uploading a fresh set of files. I don't see why you need to export/import anything.

    1) Disable or uninstall all modifications from the Admin CP

    2) Download a fresh set of files from the Member's Area

    3) Move all your existing forum files on the server to a new directory (example: rename /forum/ to /forum_old/)

    4) Upload the fresh files to the original location so there are only new files and no old files in this directory

    5) copy back config.php from the old directory- also copy back avatars and/or attachments if stored in the file system in one of the affected directories

    6) The forum should now be working fine- all fresh files and no modifications. Re-install any modifications you want to keep, be sure to grab the latest versions.

    7) If any errors persist through the above try going back to the default style as well

I really need to just move users, usergroups and all posts / pms....

        Any ideas how to?

        ======

        As per above I tried:

        1) Disable or uninstall all modifications from the Admin CP

        COMPLETED

        2) Download a fresh set of files from the Member's Area

        COMPLETED

        3) Move all your existing forum files on the server to a new directory (example: rename /forum/ to /forum_old/)

        COMPLETED

        4) Upload the fresh files to the original location so there are only new files and no old files in this directory

        COMPLETED

        5) copy back config.php from the old directory- also copy back avatars and/or attachments if stored in the file system in one of the affected directories

        COMPLETED

        6) The forum should now be working fine- all fresh files and no modifications. Re-install any modifications you want to keep, be sure to grab the latest versions.
