  • [Forum] installing vB on new host and importing database from old host

    HI,
I would like to know if is possible to import the MySQL database of an existing vB installation (3.8.6) to a new vB installation (the latest 4.x version forum only) on a different host server.
If so, how can I do ?
    Thanks

    Arturo

    Nope

You have to upgrade your existing dB to the version you want to import to. You cannot import a 3.8.x dB into a 4.x installation, they are completely different.

      Backup(export)your 3.8.6 database
Install 3.8.6 on the new server
      Import your backup.

You can keep going with 3.8.6 or upgrade to any higher version.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

Thanks for anwers. Another question. Now I have the attachements in the fyle system, not in the database. What I have to do to move them to the new server ?

You need to physically backup and move those to the new server. Then see this: How Do I Change the Location of Attachments After a Server Move
