  • [Forum] 4.1 Subscribe to THIS FORUM subscribes to ALL forums

Hi Folks, I just noticed this 2 days ago. I am in a particular subform following a particular thread and when I choose to subscribe to THIS FORUM, I find it subscribes me to EVERY forum and every thread. Is it supposed to work like this? If not, what is the problem and the fix?
That is on OUR install, I haven't tried it here.
    Thanks
    Jeff

Can you try it here, do you get the same thing as I've not experienced it on this forum.

To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

[Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

    Next, disable all plugins.

Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

    define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it.

Do you have the same problem?

Okay, here's what I see. I think it is a display error. I subscribed to this forum 4.1 Installations and Upgrades, but when I go to the overview of all forums, I see the subscribed icon, as if I'm subscribed to all forums. However in my settings, it appears that I am only subscribed to this forum. I'm on Safari, but I don't think that should cause the icon to appear...
Not sure what the problem is, but it isn't only on our forum. See attached.

No, you click the green icon to subscribe.

That's always there...... I am not subscribed to any and I get all of the green icons.

Hover over the icon to see what it says.

Click your "Settings" button at the top right to see which forums you are ACTUALLY subscribed to.
        To be updated...

This display makes no sense at all. When I hover over the green checkmark in top level forums, it says click to subscribe to the forum, but when I see the check mark in a thread it says "You are subscribed to this thread," BUT the other threads have no green checks, so it does not always appear. It is functioning in reverse at the thread level... kind of counter-intuitive....

I guess I also got partly confused because the checkmarks do not appear at all unless you are signed in.

We just went live with our site and this was the first thing the users complained about.

It makes no sense and is very confusing to use the same icon (green check) to subscribe to forums as you use to indicate existing subscriptions to threads.

It is only logical to assume when you see a green check you are subscribed to the forum since that is how the icon is used to denote thread subscriptions.

When I researched this issue earlier it looked like it was being addressed in the 4.1.7 update but it still appears to be present on this site with the current 4.1.7 beta applied.

I would suggest either use a different icon to allow users to subscribe to the forums or do use any icon and just make users use the "forum tools" option to subscribe to forums.
