    HOORAH IT'S WORKING!

I used notepad, as you said, and it's finally working.

The other files were done using Wordpad and no problems, which is odd.

I didn't think it would make such a difference using Notepad over Wordpad.

    Thankyou for your help.

      thank jebus it's over!

yeah wordpad/word will add extra formatting codes etc to plain text so you should never use it.

      Glad you got it working

I just realised the other files weren't working properly either so I've re-done all of them using notepad and it all seems fine.

Thanks for being so patient with me.

This looks like a good place to ask, is it possible yet to have the CMS in your website root whilst having forums in /forum without the need to modify code?

I bought VB4 as soon as it came out but not having the ability to do this was a bit of a joke and so far we've stuck with VB3 and VBCMPS and are just waiting until it's "officially" possible to set it up how we need to.

          Cheers

No it's not but it's not difficult either. The instructions are in the first post of this thread.

It's not so much it being difficult rather than not officially supported. If we made the changes there's no guarantee a future update wouldn't break it. With a busy live site that's quite a risk. It's still ridiculous it's not officially supported over half a year later :-(

So I believe I did what you said but I must of went wrong some where. My root domain works at maddenstars.com but the maddenstars.com/forums isn't working. If you click on the forums link, it is http://maddenstars.com/forums/forum.php. Can anyone help with what I'm missing here? Excellent post because I just puchased the CMS suite and have been struggling on how to figure out a way to make the actual CMS my root domain.

I'm not sure I understand... This same method is in the 'official' vb4 manual and says nothing about not being supported. Did I miss something?

Problem - I've set this up on my local server using...

                    Forum URL: http://192.168.1.150/subs/tcm/forum
                    HomePage URL: http://192.168.1.150/subs/tcm

                    CMS URL: http://192.168.1.150/subs/tcm/
                    Default Home Page: 1-Index
Site Tab URL: <leave this blank>

I've checked and rechecked everything else and can't figure-out why when I click on article links on the cms page, I get the below error unless I change the CMS URL: to http://192.168.1.150/subs/tcm/forum. Any ideas?

The below links (referrer page, etc.) are http://192.168.1.150/subs/tcm
                    Object not found!

The requested URL was not found on this server. The link on the referring page seems to be wrong or outdated. Please inform the author of that page about the error.
If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

Are you saying the home page works but the articles do not work?

Good catch. It's like second nature to me. Never, ever use any word processor if you're doing coding. It has always been notepad, programmer's notebook or edit plus for me by instinct.

thank you slinky for the thread.
i am intrested in putting my cms in the root directory (www.mydomian.com) and the forums (www.mydomain.com/forums) in the subdirectory.
However, i have a question: what if i want to upgrade to a latest version, will those changes make it difficult to do the upgrading?

                              please advise.

also, one another thing: does it also have any effect on the .htaccess file?
