  • [Forum] Installation crashes on Step 3 (Vista, local only Apache)

I'm attempting to install vBulletin locally so that I can test using ImpEx on our existing forum while we wait for the server that will host vBulletin for us to be delivered. I'm just using localhost for everything. After a struggle, I got Vista, Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2, and MySql Server 5.1 to cooperate enough that I could start installing vBulletin.

    Step 1) Verify Configuration
Config file exists and is readable.

Step 2) Connect to the database
    Attempting to attach to database
Connection succeeded! The database already exists.
Click here if you would like to see options for clearing the existing contents of your database.

At this point whether I "click here" or just click the "Next Step" button, I see "Step 3) Creating tables" for a few seconds, then my connection is broken and Windows tells me that Apache died. If it matters, I'm using mysqli and not mysql.

Where do I look to start debugging this? And yes, I turned off all my non-standard toolbars in FireFox.

Solved! I had to tweak the security settings on MySQL to allow for remote connections. (at least that's what I think did it - I changed several things at once)
