OK, I'm fixed but I do have a question and I don't know if anything can or should be done about it.

My front page URL was www.dumontnjforum.com
My forum page was www.dumontnjforum.com/forums

You had a CMS or something installed, portal system or web page? You'll need to read up about how to move your cms to that directory and retain everything else there's tons of threads on it .

You need to rewrite some links via htaccess or check the url options in your admincp are you going to be using vBSEO? if so that will make a difference in how you set it all up otherwise check your options. That htaccess I've been speaking of... if you had one simply rename it htacces.php and refresh the pages sometimes htaccess can cause issues if something is entered in wrong or outdated read up via the links above and again if you had one figure out what was causing the issue so you know and can use it or create a new one from scratch and only put in it what you need as you go to make things work just how you want .

Now along with checking the old htaccess if any above you might also need to delete any old vb3 styles, update the counters and check after that then if anything use tools.php and see if that helps and verify the url settings!

FYI: My front page was vBadvanced but it's turned off and I will not be using it any more. I'd like my front to be like the default here at vbulletin.

I already deleted all vB3 styles.
I don't know how to use tools.php

Uninstall vbAdvanced and did you update the counters for the style via admincp > maintenance > Update Counters

?

and tools.php is in the "do_not_upload" folder that came with your vbulletin version, upload it to admincp folder and type in the url i.e. www.yoursite.com/admincp/tools.php and reset the cookies.

Update 1.15.2010

1. Added the statement below to Section 4, step 3a.



PLEASE delete all old vBulletin 3.x styles and revert to default or create a new default style if yours has ever been modified. I had an upgrade to perform last night that had CMS errors and with the old styles where as the forums and blog did not so it is known to cause issues if you do not delete your old 3.x styles and use default before you upgrade.

I think that would be my site! I have to say that Mike was very helpful in trying to help me with my upgrades.. he kept offering me the guidance every time I hit the roadblock. I'm fairly new this forum and only knew of him from this thread. And he spent hours trying to help me learn the backup and upgrade process. He finally figured out that I was having troubles because of my existing styles. Once he deleted them, upgrade went smooth. Thanks so much, Mike!!!!

Ok. Done everything above except

I haven't touched .htaccess (yet?). There is only vBseo stuff in there which is disbaled because of the upgrade. Is this a problem? Or, just change to a .php extension?

Secondly, I think I know the answer but let me ask.

And, one of the readme files I just read said to use install.php for a new install and use upgrade.php to upgrade from 3.8.4.

Just rename the .htaccess for now to see if it makes any problems go away .

To move the forums simply go into the folder "forums" and copy it all, now place that in the main directory i.e. your ROOT folder for a web page to display most likely www or public_html then run tools.php, make sure the URL in admincp is correct w/o the forums and if it's fine delete the old forums folder.

If your upgrading the test site you have made, upload the vB4 files onto the test folders files and say yes to overwrite if it asks then simply run the upgrade.php

install.php is for a brand new installation of vBulletin.
upgrade.php is for upgrading to a newer verison of vBulletin.

Hmm then something else is causing the issue...

Let me ask you this... what have you NOT tried because you were not 100% sure 1) what it meant or 2) what is was or 3) how to do it? If you had that cross your mind or skipped one thing you have seen recommended by me or someone else what was it?

IF nothing comes to mind from my question above then you might need to have someone take a look at it however is it the site in your sig i.e. http://www.dumontnjforum.com/ ? IF yes then your close and I mean close I did not try to register or access but it has to be something simple.

To the best of my knowledge I have tried everything. I'd just like the home page to be www.dumontnjforum.com, forums = www.dumontnjforum.com/forums and blog = www.dumontnjforum.com/blog or www.dumontnjforum.com/forums/blog if that request is troublesome or not possible.

I don't understand why/how vBulletin changed my URL structure?

As I mentioned and not sure if I did this I think I did an install not an upgrade.

That problem and the postbit_legacy is out of whack.

Other issues - Find all posts by only show posts made after upgrading to 4.0.1 and
there's no line between the post and the sig.

Have you modified your postbit and or used a mod that changed it?

If you have modified or used a mod with manual or auto template changes then revert the template and or disable the mod. There's still a few problems in the 4.0.1 so some of that could be normal until a new version is released, you'll have to browse around here to see what others have posted about any similar type of problem(s) and also check on the recently reported bugs here: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?projectid=6

Be sure not to post yet another thread with the same info, if you find a thread with an identical issue post in it and subscribe so you can keep up with it, same wit the bug tracker I bookmark/favorite a page when I need to.

Figured out the only admins and logged in users.

My only problem, concern now is the URL's
Also, slight concern: Find all posts by a user is only showing posts made on vb 4.0.1 not for the existence of the board.
