My web host has informed me that our server is being upgraded next week from MySQL 5.6 to 5.7 Will this be compatible with my forum running on v3.8.8?

I had asked hostgator on my shared server whether they would be going to mySQL 5.7, and they responded:
cPanel is also not planning on supporting MySQL 5.7 as they are switching support...Fri 23 Sep '16, 11:48am
