I don't see anything in the logs. Could this be a simple permissions error?

What type of file are they trying to upload and what are the dimensions and filesize of the file? And are your avatars stored in the database or filesystem?

I had put this on the backburner because I was going to migrate the forums one more time and I hoped the problem would correct itself on the new server. No such luck.

On the new server, I get this on a diagnostic run...

            Pertinent PHP Settings
            file_uploads: On
            open_basedir: /var/www/vhosts/adserver.azbilliards.com/:/tmp/
            safe_mode: Off
            upload_tmp_dir: None
            upload_max_filesize: 128.00 MB
            Results
No errors occurred while opening the uploaded file for reading.

imagetemp is 777 and owned by the same owner and group as attachments. Attachments are stored on the hard drive and work fine.

            Nothing in the error logs.

trying to upload a 29K jpg as a new avatar.

              What about this directory:

What is "imagetemp" - or where is it used? There is nothing in the PHP Settings results that mentions that directory.

Trevor has asked earlier in this thread about the permissions on imagetemp. I assumed that was some sort of holding directory for uploads.

Just chmodded the adserver.azbilliards.com directory to 777. Still no luck.

Checked /tmp and that looks fine too.

imagetemp is the directory that was showing on your phpinfo hence why I asked about it - it's nothing to do with vBulletin however any uploads will have used that. On your new server, the temp directory is different so 'imagetemp' is not an issue now.

So the tmp directory is CHMOD 777?

Yes, the tmp is 777. Not sure if this matters, but the tmp is off the server root. It is not under adserver.azbilliards.com.

What do you have set for AdminCP > Settings > Options > Image Settings >Image Processing Library? What do you have set for AdminCP > Settings > Options > Server Settings > Safe Mode Upload Enabled and Safe Mode Temporary Directory? Exactly what happens when you try to upload an Avatar - is there an error or what? And how about attachments - are you able to upload those? And are the avatars stored in the database or filesystem?

OK, attachments are stored in the file system and they work fine.

Image processing library is GD with nothing ImageMagick Binary Path.

Safe mode is turned off, but I do have the old path to imagetemp in the safe mode temporary directory. I don't think that matters since safe mode is turned off, but if it does matter then the directory is not correct. It is based on the linux box that I moved to a couple weeks ago and I am on a different linux box now.

When I try to upload a new avatar or signature image, I get "Unable to save image" with no entries in the error log.

I really appreciate all of the hand holding on this.

You said attachments are stored in the file system, but what about avatars? And if they are in the filesystem, check the directory for them and for the thumbnails directory within the avatar directory.

Lynne, have I mentioned lately that you are a genius?

I figured it was something stupid in the settings.

                              That fixed it.
