vb3.8 salt

in database, usually when i see the SALT column, it only has 3 characters.
will it have more than 3 characters?
there are a few members i saw having like a string of 10 characters, some 8 characters.
does vbulletin generate more than 3 characters for SALT ?

What is the field length? What version of 3.8.x are you running?

My current salt column is char(30)
running vb3.8.6

after checking through my database, i have got

a few members with 1 character salt
over 100 members with 2 characters salt
a few k members with 30 characters salt
the rest of the members with 3 characters salt

different version vb has different salt length?
