Unfortunately what was defaced/broken may have nothing to do with the actual security issue. Were they able to create a new Admin account? Do you have old 3rd party plugins? VBSEO, VBAdvanced, The Arcade are popular add-ons with exploits n the last few years but there are dozens more.
There are also known exploits in 3.8.2 itself. Only 3.8.7 (and 3.8.8 beta) are considered safe to run in the 3.x series.
Your host may be able to help you determine how you were exploited looking at the site access logs.Leave a comment:

After a hacker attacked my site Advanced search, Faq and Calendar goes in a blank page that writes : Closed.
My version is 3.8.2
Normal search and everything else works fine. Any ideas ?
