Hi can you tell me what is the benefit if i do from www.mydomain.com/index.php to www.mydomain.com/forum.php

what is the benefit?

and what is the procedure through which i can rename index.php to home.php or forum.php

You can rename the file to what you want then update the following setting:

AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Forum Home Page Options > Script Name for Forum Home Page

Naming it to something other than index.php will allow you to have another page as your homepage in that directory

It means you can create your own index page for your site/sub-directory
